Public safety calls for week of March 8

** Thefts and burglaries

Shoplifting, noon Feb. 26, Walmart. Tara Lynn Jones, 32, of Astoria was arrested on suspicion of third-degree theft and criminal mischief after she allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying for $88 in food and clothes.

Shoplifting, 5:40 p.m. Feb. 26, Walmart. Sarai Eduardo-Davis, 35, of Astoria was arrested on suspicion of third-degree theft after she allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying for $59 in clothes and spray paint.

Burglary, 11:07 a.m. Feb. 28, Warrenton High School bus barn. A thief cut a chain-link fence and siphoned gas from several buses. A student’s vehicle, parked in the school’s lot, was broken into and a Pioneer car stereo and speakers removed. The school’s video surveillance shows a man walking a dog coming from the bus barn area and entering the student’s vehicle about 1 a.m.

Theft of city services and code violations, noon March 1, 1500 block Southeast Honeysuckle Loop. Gerardo A. Castro Chavez, 39, of Warrenton was cited for criminal theft of water and failure to comply with plumbing codes after a home under construction was found to be hooked up to a city water main without permits or a meter and had no backflow device installed.

Shoplifting, 12:08 a.m. March 2, Walmart. Shasta M. Shaw, 18, of Kelso, Wash., was cited for criminal third-degree theft, criminal mischief and carrying a concealed weapon after she allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying for $25 in makeup, food and a switchblade.

Shoplifting, 4:14 p.m. March 3, Walmart. Two teenagers and two adults were detained after Walmart security discovered them working together to remove merchandise from the store. Issabella J. Lewellen, 20, of Astoria and a 17-year-old girl were cited for criminal second-degree theft after they allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying for a combined $360 worth of merchandise. Sara J. Jenson, 20, of Astoria and a 16-year-old girl were cited for criminal third-degree theft after they allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying for a combined $150 in merchandise.

Prowler, 3:43 a.m. March 4, 1700 block Pacific Ridge Road. A man spotted someone entering his neighbor’s vehicle and then leave the area. Police checked the vehicle and woke the neighbor who found his garage door opener missing. The thief wasn’t found during a search of the area.

Burglary, 5:30 a.m. March 5, 1000 Southwest Ninth Street. Someone took seven small glass floats and a large glass float from a back yard. Loss was estimated at $300.

** Suspicious circumstances/disturbances

Harassment, 12:16 p.m. Feb. 25, Rite Aid. A man who’d been asked to leave the premises after making threats had returned several times and continued to make threats.

Public urination, 10:44 a.m. Feb. 27, behind the Head Start building at Robinson Community Park. Brandon Robert Gillette, 40, with no known address, was cited for disorderly conduct and trespassed from the park for 30 days.

Women arguing and yelling over a swing for children with disabilities, 5:32 p.m. March 3, Robinson Community Park. One woman contended the other woman’s son wasn’t handicapped and shouldn’t be using the swing. Parties separated.

Dogs at large, 2:15 p.m. March 4, 500 block Southwest First Place. Dogs returned to residence and owner warned.

** Vehicles

Two-vehicle noninjury collision, 3:35 p.m. Feb. 28, Highway 101 at Ensign Lane.

Speeding, 5:01 p.m. Feb. 28, North Main Avenue at Northwest First Street. Driver cited for going 57 in a 35 mph zone.

Eluding, 7:15 p.m. Feb. 28, Ninth Avenue at King Salmon Place. Jeremy J. Hudak, 35, of Hammond was cited for criminal eluding an officer and for driving while suspended.

Speeding, 9:13 a.m. March 1, Highway 101 at Alternate Highway 101. Driver cited for going 61 in a 45 mph zone.

Running a stoplight, 11:45 a.m. March 1, Highway 101 at Harbor Drive. Driver cited.

Traffic stop, 9:36 p.m. March 1, Ensign Lane at Highway 101. Driver cited for driving while suspended.

Drunken driving, 1:16 a.m. March 2, Harbor Drive at Marlin Avenue. Tammie D. Mayfield, 48, of Warrenton was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants. She was booked at Clatsop County Jail, where her blood-alcohol level was recorded at 0.18 percent.

Traffic stop, 2:37 a.m. March 2, 600 block Highway 101. Driver cited for failing to present a license. Traffic stop, 8:46 a.m. March 2, Highway 101 at Harbor Drive. Driver cited for driving while suspended.

Running a stoplight, 10:20 a.m. March 2, Ensign and Discovery lanes. Driver cited.

Drunken driving, 7:16 p.m. March 2, Highway 101 at roundabout. Drew Curtis Black, 23, of Gearhart was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants. He was booked at Clatsop County Jail, where his blood-alcohol level was recorded at 0.14 percent.

Traffic stop, 7:20 p.m. March 2, Ensign and Discovery lanes. Driver cited for driving while suspended.

Expired plates, 2:27 p.m. March 4, South Main Avenue at Third Street. Driver cited.

Traffic stop, 3:37 p.m. March 4, four-way stop. Driver cited for failing to carry insurance.

Provide mutual aid for smoke coming from building, 11:19 p.m. March 3, 645 Marine Drive, Astoria.
