A benefit dinner held recently to raise money for Astoria’s Scandinavian Heritage Park brought in $45,000, bringing total fundraising efforts for the park’s construction to more than $400,000.

The Nordic-themed dinner was held at Carruther’s Restaurant in Astoria with Special Appeal leaders Mark Kujula and Merianne Myers providing the entertainment.

The nonprofit Astoria Scandinavian Heritage Association has an agreement with the city of Astoria to build the park on the Astoria Riverwalk between 15th and16th streets.

The final design and engineering plans have been approved. The project goes out for bid when the total fundraising goal is met.

Organizers hope the project will be ready for dedication in June 2020.
