Cannon Beach program puts puffins first

Thursday, March 29, 2018

The Haystack Rock Awareness Program has developed a new campaign that focuses on the city’s most iconic symbol in hopes of increasing tourism and promoting education.

The group is working with Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce and Friends of Haystack Rock on the rollout of “We Speak Puffin.”

Local hoteliers and businesses will be trained in the rock’s history and the intertidal and bird ecology of the national wildlife refuge at Haystack Rock.

“Our hope is for visitors to recognize the We Speak Puffin logo and trust their questions about Haystack Rock can be confidently answered at the participating establishments,” said HRAP’s Lisa Habecker. “The whole process was designed to be quick, casual and fun.”
