Public safety calls for week of Aug. 30

** Thefts and burglaries

Shoplifting, 7 p.m. Aug. 20, Walmart. Bradley K. Bern, 43, of Astoria was cited for third-degree theft and criminal mischief after he left the store allegedly without paying for $29 in soda and flea spray.

Burglary, 9:18 a.m. Aug. 21, Main Street Market. Jared Curtis Cupit, 44, no known address, was arrested for second-degree burglary after he allegedly took $40 worth of bottles and a bag filled with recycled cans from the store’s back room.

Shoplifting, 11:08 p.m. Aug. 22, Walmart. Lysandra Y. Hughes, 36, of Bonney Lake, Wash., was cited for second-degree theft after she allegedly attempted to leave the store without paying for $184 in food, clothes, school supplies and pet food.

Shoplifting, 4 p.m. Aug. 24, Walmart. Barry L. Cope Jr., 31, of Grand Ronde was cited for criminal second-degree theft after he left the store allegedly without paying for $430 in music equipment, wiring and a drill.

Shoplifting, 4:30 p.m. Aug. 25, Walmart. Samson Alexander Long, 20, of Long Beach, Wash., was cited for third-degree theft after he allegedly attempt to leave the store without paying for merchandise.

Shoplifting, 10:01 p.m. Aug. 25, Walmart. Jonathan E. Walgren, 28, of Gearhart was cited for third-degree theft, criminal mischief, criminal trespassing and carrying a concealed weapon after he allegedly attempted to run from the store without paying for $55 in batteries and a DVD.

** Suspicious circumstances/disturbances

Suspicious circumstances, 3:08 a.m. Aug. 15, Les Schwab. A woman was seen walking along the fence line near Clatsop Distributing. She told officers she was waiting for her boyfriend to pick her up, but later admitted they were homeless and sleeping in their vehicle at the business.

Disturbance, 12:38 p.m. Aug. 15, Highway 101 at Ensign Lane. Richard Paul Williams, 61, no known address, was cited for second-degree disorderly conduct.

Trespassing, 10:53 p.m. Aug. 19, Fort Pointe property off Ridge Road. Lonie Charles Davis Jr., 41, no known address, was trespassed from the vacant property.

Found property, 10:50 a.m. Aug. 20, Verizon Store. A customer found a black Motorola G-6 cell phone outside the store.

Trespassing, 8:32 p.m. Aug. 23, Walmart. Lonny Alan Baker, 30, and Chelsey Jean Gutierrez, 28, both of Seaside, were cited for criminal trespassing after returning to the store from which they’d been trespassed previously.

Disturbance, 1:51 a.m. Aug. 24, Warrenton Mini Mart. Roman Orlando Thomas, 30, of Warrenton was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct.

Assist delusional woman, 8:03 p.m. Aug. 24, Fred Meyer. The 43-year old woman from Ocean Park, Wash., initially reported she’d been kidnapped, then said her child had been kidnapped, then said she’d been attacked by a sex offender. She requested to go to Warrenton Mini Mart and an officer gave her a ride.

Digging through trash receptacles, 12:20 a.m. Aug. 25, behind Bubba’s Sports Bar and Warrenton Mini Mart. A man and woman pushing carts were rummaging through bins and the man became verbally aggressive when approached. The 33-year-old Hammond man was cited for breaking a city ordinance prohibiting digging in garbage bins.

Dogs killed neighbor’s chickens, 2:11 a.m. Aug. 26, 200 block Southwest Birch Court. Dogs were turned over to Clatsop County Animal Control.

Disturbance, 8:54 a.m. Aug. 26, Shilo Inn. Joshua A. Koopmann, 25, of Gresham was arrested on a warrant and for giving false information to a police officer.

** Vehicles

Drunken driving, 4:20 p.m. Aug. 13, 200 block Southwest Alder. Herbert G. Bechtolt, 71, of Warrenton was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants. He was booked at Clatsop County Jail, where he was cited for refusing to take a breath test.

Vehicle vs. pedestrian hit-and-run, 9:14 p.m. Aug. 13, Highway 101 at Alternate Highway 101. A 27-year-old woman staying in a transient camp was walking with her boyfriend when she was struck by a car, sustaining injuries to her foot.

Traffic stop, 11:10 p.m. Aug. 16, Highway 101 Business at Clover Road. Lynda Lee Owens, 37, of Astoria was cited for criminal driving while suspended, failure to carry and present a license and driving without insurance.

Hit-and-run collision, 2:25 p.m. Aug. 20, Home Depot parking lot.

Vehicle vs. bicyclist, 9:59 p.m. Aug. 23, Ensign Lane at Highway 101. The driver pulled into the intersection and struck an oncoming bicyclist he didn’t see. No injuries. Driver agreed to buy the rider a new bicycle.

Traffic stop, 8:40 a.m. Aug. 24, Highway 101 at Neptune Drive. Fredrick Lon Sherman, 38, of Astoria was cited for criminal failure to carry and present a license, driving while suspended and driving without insurance.

Running a stop sign, 12:55 p.m. Aug. 25, 19th and Chokeberry streets. Driver cited.

Traffic stop, 4 p.m. Aug. 25, Marlin Avenue at Harbor Drive. Sabino Garcia-Perez, 51, of Warrenton was cited for criminal failure to carry and present a license, driving without a license and driving without insurance.

Illegal U-turn, 3:55 p.m. Aug. 26, South Main Avenue at Southwest First Street. Driver cited.

Provide mutual aid for structure fire, 5:37 p.m. Aug. 20, 708 Alameda Ave., Astoria.

Radon alarm, 7:19 a.m. Aug. 21, 400 block South Main Avenue.
