Cancer collaborative sponsors lunchtime health chats

The public is welcome to any of several informative and informal lunch-time conversations about improving your health sponsored by Columbia Memorial Hospital and the Knight-OHSU Cancer Collaborative.

All presentations are from 11 a.m. to noon in the activity room at the center, 1905 Exchange St., Astoria. Sessions are free and light bites will be provided. For more information, call 503-338-4520.

Wednesday, Oct. 2: “Go With Your Gut” and learn about gut health and cancer and how to promote a healthy digestive tract during treatment. Registered Dietitian Grace Laman will discuss how intestinal bacteria can affect treatment.

Wednesday, Oct. 9: “What’s All the Buzz?” led by CMH pharmacy intern Amber Tovey, will cover cannabis products, cannabidiol (CBD) and discuss their increasing use, important things to consider before using and what research exists. This presentation is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 10: Join Alexis Aiello, CMH speech-language pathologist, as she shares information about tracheostomies and adapting to communication changes.

Tuesday, Oct. 15: “Made to Order: An Inside Look at Chemotherapy Preparation” includes a discussion from CMH pharmacy staff about what it takes to prepare chemotherapy for each individual.

Wednesday, Oct. 30: Blair Cocking, CMH occupational therapist and certified lymphatic therapist will discuss and demonstrate occupational therapy interventions and lymphedema care.
