WHS wrestler earns state title

By Cory Conant/WHS wrestling coach, Thursday, February 13, 2020

The girls wrestling team fought hard at last weekend’s North Regional competition, but caught some tough match-ups early on.

The regional at Century High School featured teams from Warrenton to Nyssa, and all the way to North Salem. A separate Southern Regional was held at Thurston High School in Springfield.

The top four at each regional qualified to create an eight-girl bracket for State.

Both the quantity and quality of Warrenton’s girl wrestlers has increased every year.

Jade Vollner took fourth at 190 and will compete for the state title for the second time. As a sophomore, she placed fourth in the first-ever girls state tournament in 2018.

It’s the first four-year girls group that we’ve had. Anna Schenbeck, Isabella Carr and Jade have provided leadership to the younger wrestlers and have played a huge role in building a tradition of girls wrestling at Warrenton High School.

The coaching staff is incredibly proud of this group and look for good things for them in the future.
