Four young women have been named to the 2021 Astoria Scandinavian Midsummer Festival Court.

They’ll represent the region and the festival throughout the spring, speaking at various lodge meetings and events about what their heritage means to them.

Traditionally, the festival is held on the third full weekend of June every year. This year’s festival will be somewhat limited because of the pandemic, with a few of the events occurred in downtown Astoria.

Members of the court are:

Lila-June Anderson, Miss Denmark. She is a junior at Astoria High School and is sponsored by the Lower Columbia Danish Society. Her family heritage includes Swedish, Danish and Norwegian by marriage.

Emma Biederman, Miss Finland. She is a senior at Astoria High School and has attended many festivals in the past. Her great-grandmother was 100 percent Finnish. She is on her school’s varsity soccer and softball teams and also participates in 4-H.

Grace Maier, Miss Norway. She is a senior at Tigard High School and is sponsored by Sons of Norway Nidaros Lodge 16. Both of her parents are half Norwegian. She has participated in language camp at the lodge and at Trollhaugen Lodge in Washington state. She is a member of the Leikarringen dance troupe.

Kaisa Liljenwall, Miss Sweden. She is a freshman at University of Southern California, where she is studying biomedical engineering. Her heritage is Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian. She has been involved with the Viking and Nordic Dancers since second grade and currently is active with the university’s Naval ROTC battalion and Women in Engineering group.

Sofia Morrill, Miss Scandinavia 2019-2020. She is a Warrenton High School graduate and currently attends Oregon State University. In 2009, she was Junior Miss Finland and, 10 years later, as Miss Finland before being named queen at the 2019 festival. Her mother, Annamaria, immigrated to the United States from Finland.
