Suzanne Iverson

Age: 73

Residence: Astoria

Occupation: Retired community education/workforce training coordinator at Clatsop Community College for 18 years

Education: Medford High School graduate, Northwestern Business College in Portland, Portland State University certificate in Workforce Training

Community involvement: Owner of a small business, Iverson Farms; Pacific Woods Special Olympics board member; Astoria-Warrenton Chamber board member; 4-H programs in Clatsop County.

What will you bring to the board? Experience. As a college coordinator, my experience working with businesses and agencies to provide short-term trainings, along with doing needs assessments within the county workforce, have given me great insight and success to meet the needs in the workforce. I understand how a community college runs and know the value it brings to our community. Both of my daughters received their associate degrees from Clatsop and I used the college for my own training for both my college employment as well as for skill training in my personal business. I will strive to see the college grow, prosper and serve our community.

Top issues

**Re-engaging with the community. It needs to be more visible and increase marketing to allow community members to learn what our college can offer for academic, one- and two-year training programs, short-term training and lifelong learning classes.

** Seeing enrollment grow, especially after a yearlong pandemic. I’ll look at ways to increase enrollment, again by engaging with community members to meet training and educational needs. I’ll work with employment agencies to enhance a better workforce through the education and training the college can provide.

** Keeping classes affordable. The college needs to keep tuition and training costs down while offering quality training and academic education.
