Fernando Rojas-Galvan
Thursday, April 29, 2021

BB4Books -- or Bandit Biking for Books – is the featured topic at this month’s Ales & Ideas lecture.

Clatsop Community College faculty member Fernando Rojas-Galvan will share his inspiration and projects live at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 6, via Fort George Brewery’s Facebook page.

Rojas-Galvan will talk about a July BB4Books fundraiser that will include a 1,600-mile bicycle journey to visit each of Oregon’s 17 community colleges.

He has taught Spanish, English and other courses at the college for 24 years and has a frontline perspective on the impact of textbook costs on students. His organization was inspired by Canadian Terry Fox, who ran thousands of miles to raise money for cancer research.

Information about BB4Books and his fundraiser can be found on the college’s website,

Rojas-Galván was born in El Sauz, Mexico, in the far northwestern portion of the state of Michoacán. The family moved to Oregon when he was a young child and his father sought work on a strawberry farm near Hillsboro.

Virtual participants will enjoy a live multimedia slide presentation plus an opportunity to pose questions through a monitored Facebook comments section.
