An Oklahoma couple was arrested July 19 on suspicion of using credit cards they stole from a car parked at Fort Columbia near Chinook and going on a spending spree in Warrenton.

Dylan Cole Deshields, 24, and Shylo Amanda Short, 22, both of Bartlesville, Okla., were arrested in Colorado Springs, Colo., after a nationwide crime spree.

They are suspected of stealing a car in Las Vegas on June 14, driving to the Northwest, breaking into the car in Washington state and using the victim’s credit cards to purchase items at the Warrenton Dairy Queen, Fred Meyer and Walmart, a gas station and coffee shop in Astoria.

Similar thefts were reported along the west coast as they moved south.

On July 1, the maroon Hyundai Sonata pictured in surveillance photos from Walmart, was found burned in Ramona, Calif., a small town in San Diego County. Another vehicle was stolen in that area.

On July 11, the couple were arrested in Colorado Springs, still in possession of the car stolen from San Diego County.

They were booked in El Paso County Jail in Colorado on fugitive from justice warrants out of Kansas, Oklahoma and Florida.

Warrenton Police intend to ask the Clatsop County District Attorney’s Office to file charges of identity theft, forgery fraudulent use of a credit card and third-degree theft. Washington state also is expected to file charges.
