Crews broke ground Tuesday at the site of a new Wendy’s restaurant in the Warrenton Highlands Shopping Center, across from Home Depot and Walmart.

The 2,400-square-foot restaurant will have a drive-through window, 11 tables inside and several more on a patio.

Construction at the half-acre site is expected to be complete by spring, a spokesman for the company said. Hiring will begin shortly after the first of the year.

At its busiest times, the restaurant can do up to 170 transactions per hour, according to the company.

The location on Ensign Lane was in the plans as a spot for a drive-through restaurant when the 52,000-square-feet Warrenton Highlands shopping center opened in late 2011.

The Highway 101/Ensign Lane intersection is the busiest in the city.
